# WCAG Certified Consent Management Platform

# ACCESSIBILITY FOR EVERYONE

[Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/) certification is considered the gold standard for web accessibility. It helps ensure that all website and app users have an equal and transparent user experience to make consent choices regarding processing of their data.

We strive to provide a digital experience that is inclusive and accessible to all users of all abilities. As part of this mission, our product now meets the **Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.**

### Conformance status

Our CMP products have been certified as conforming to WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements. This means that the public-facing user interface and content meet a range of accessibility requirements designed to make digital experiences more usable for people with diverse abilities, including those with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

Conformance was evaluated through:

- Independent accessibility audit by Zoonou Limited, with a Voluntary Product Assessment Template (VPAT) issued
- Manual testing with assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers and keyboard navigation)
- Use of automated accessibility testing tools

### Scope of conformance

This conformance applies to:

- Usercentrics Cookiebot CMP
- Usercentrics Web CMP (older version)
- Usercentrics Web CMP (newer version)
- Usercentrics App CMP

### Out of scope

Any custom changes to the default settings of the Usercentrics products may impact the accessibility of the banner(s), and may require separate evaluation to determine whether such changes meet any applicable accessibility requirements.

### Ongoing commitment

Accessibility is an ongoing priority. We continually monitor our product and release updates to maintain and improve accessibility. New features are designed with WCAG 2.2 AA standards in mind from the outset.

ALL-AROUND ACCESSIBILITY

## Don’t forget your cookie banner

Websites are not truly accessible and WCAG-compliant unless all of their elements are. If your cookie banner isn’t compliant, your website isn’t. All layers of the Usercentrics cookie banner for all of our plans have been tested against [WCAG 2.2 AA compliance requirements](https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/quickref/) and have passed.

ACCESSIBILITY BUILDS TRUST

## Protect all of your users

We know that bad user experience drives away website visitors and customers. That’s even more true for those with disabilities who *can’t* use websites and apps that are not accessible.

From animations to captions to text readability, show that you value all of your users by ensuring end-to-end accessibility with a WCAG-compliant consent management platform. Build trust with transparent communication and clear consent choices.

THE FOUNDATION

## The 4 Principles of Accessibility

Usercentrics is committed to pursuing certified accessibility for all four of the [WCAG accessibility principles](https://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/intro.html#introduction-fourprincs-head).

- **Perceivable** – Users must be able to perceive the information being presented (with at least some of their senses)
- **Operable** – Users must be able to operate the interface
- **Understandable** – users must be able to understand the information as well as the operation of the user interface
- **Robust** – users must be able to access the content as technologies advance

ENSURE INFORMED CONSENT

## Privacy and accessibility work together

WCAG accessibility guidelines and privacy regulations share a substantial number of similarities, if for different reasons.

On a Consent Management Platform, visual elements like buttons have to be the same size and comparable colours and contrast. This is to ensure users aren’t being “nudged” toward providing consent, for example. But it also makes selecting a button easier.

Text, like a cookie policy, has to be both clear to read (visually or with a screen reader) and clear to understand, as privacy laws require user consent to be informed.

These are just a couple of examples of how good user experience, accessibility, and privacy law work together to protect users.

 Benefits of WCAG

 Welcome more users

Growing your company means welcoming all website visitors. Don’t lose potential customers because your site won’t work for them.

 More positive user experience

Small details can make a big impression. Using a compliant Consent Management Platform to respect user privacy, and complying with WCAG principles go a long way in building customer relationships.

 Boost acceptance rates

You need data for your marketing initiatives, so you want to maximize acceptance rates. You need transparent messaging, clear consent options, and accessible elements.

Accessibility isn’t just nice to have

Reasonable accessibility following WCAG guidelines is a requirement in the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). This Act applies to companies doing business with California residents, not just to companies based in the state.
