As a user of the Usercentrics platform, you will come across the concept of a configuration. This FAQ answers any questions you may have.
What is a configuration?
A configuration is a single Consent Management Platform (CMP) setup. It defines how the CMP banner looks, which services it lists, which legal framework it follows, and how it behaves. If you manage multiple sites with different data-processing services, you can use one configuration per domain. You can also create separate configurations for different legal frameworks (e.g., GDPR, TCF, CCPA).
When to use multiple configurations?
You need at least one configuration to set up a CMP, but you can create as many as you need. Common reasons to use multiple configurations include:
Multiple domains: Use a separate configuration per website, especially when the websites use different data processing services.
Different legal frameworks: Use separate configurations for GDPR, TCF, CCPA, or other frameworks that require different banner behavior or content.
Different brands or business units: Use separate configurations to keep styling, services, and reporting isolated.
What do I need to do after configuring my CMP?
After you finish configuring the appearance, behavior, and services, you need to embed the CMP script on your website so the banner loads with the page and data processing services are blocked until the user gives consent. There are several ways to do this, depending on your setup (Google Tag, Wix, other integrations), but the most forward way is to edit the code of the website directly.

What is the settings ID and where can I find it?
The settings ID is the unique identifier for a specific CMP configuration. Include it in the Usercentrics script on your website so our system can load the exact appearance and behavior defined for your CMP.
You can find the settings ID by following these steps:
Go to your account. In the list of companies select the respective company.
On the Configurations page, select the respective configuration.
In the header, the breadcrumbs show the settings ID of the configuration, next to the name of the configuration, in [ ] brackets. Click on the settings ID to copy it to your clipboard.
