FAQs
A cookie consent solution, also called consent management platform (CMP), helps ensure cookie compliance with data privacy regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in the United States. Usercentrics CMP also enables customers from the EU/EEA, UK, and Switzerland to meet the requirements for Google’s EU user consent policy and comes with Google Consent Mode integrated.
Cookie consent tools also enable companies to customize the cookie banner or pop-up notification that appears on their website or app, ensuring that users are provided with clear and transparent information about the types of data that will be collected, how it will be used, and who it will be shared with.
Particularly since the Digital Markets Act (DMA) came into effect in the EU, there are an increasing number of privacy compliance requirements that companies have to meet that come from businesses like Google, rather than from government regulations. This can include use of a certified CMP that supports Consent Mode, which Google requires for their customers to signal consent from a certified CMP to maintain full access to features like personalization and retargeting to maintain ad revenue. The latest version of Consent Mode also enables conversion modeling to help marketers gain a fuller picture of user activities, even when consent is not given, to enable more informed decisions.
After your 30-day trial ends, your account and setup will remain intact. However, you will not be able to make changes to it or access your analytics. This means you will no longer be collecting consent, which may mean your website is no longer compliant with data privacy regulations. To prevent this, login and upgrade to the exclusive Google plan to continue using the Usercentrics CMP and support Google Consent Mode.
In order to receive the exclusive discount for Google customers, sign up for Usercentrics CMP in the Google Ads, Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager UI by September 30, 2024 and start with a 30-day free trial.
With the special offer, the Advanced Web Plan is only € 30/month, a 40% savings! This plan includes up to 25,000 monthly sessions and 10 domains.
Google Consent Mode is an open API developed by Google that enables your website to run all its Google services, such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Google Ads, based on the consent state of your end users, which helps you meet privacy requirements by Google and global privacy regulations.
Your consent management platform (CMP) displays the consent banner, like Usercentrics CMP, where users make consent choices about access to their personal data. The CMP stores the consent information, and Google Consent Mode, which is integrated into the CMP, also receives that consent information as a signal, which it sends to Google services, like tags, in use on your website. No personal data is sent to Google, only the specifics of the user’s consent, e.g. if the user has chosen not to consent to marketing cookies. Google services then operate based on the consent state, e.g. displaying contextual advertisement on your website without the use of personal data if the user didn’t consent to the activation marketing cookies.
You can implement Google Consent Mode by using a consent management platform like Usercentrics CMP. If you implement the CMP via Google Ads, Analytics or Tag Manager, Consent Mode is automatically installed. To ensure Consent Mode is properly implemented, you need to make sure that:
- The Consent Mode default settings are registered in Google Tag Manager, and updated settings are pushed to the dataLayer when consent choices are made known.
- No cookies are set prior consent or after an opt-out.
