Crossplan Deutschland provides the digital infrastructure behind more than 70 radio stations across the DACH region. With a team of 12, the company manages consent across every audio publisher’s web, app, and connected TV properties.
Usercentrics CMP enables Crossplan to govern 163 consent management configurations from a centralized dashboard, with standardized compliance templates that are adaptable to each publisher's requirements. After five years of partnership and evaluating competing providers, Crossplan has chosen to stay with Usercentrics’s Web, App, and CTV consent management solutions.
The company
Crossplan Deutschland is a digital audio company based in Hamburg and Berlin. The company serves as the technical infrastructure layer for publishing houses, radio stations, and media organizations across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, handling inventory hosting for online audio and podcasts, yield and campaign management, and data privacy compliance.
The portfolio covers more than 70 radio stations with more than 800 digital offers. Crossplan‘s team of 12 manages the consent infrastructure behind all of them: 89 web domains, 68 mobile apps, and six connected TV properties, totaling 163 active consent management configurations.
Challenge
Each audio publisher in Crossplan’s portfolio operates with its own data protection officers, legal requirements, and compliance expectations. A consent configuration that works for one publisher may not meet the requirements of another, and every setup must satisfy the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF).
Regulatory updates compound the complexity. When framework changes such as TCF 2.3 take effect, Crossplan must implement the update across all active instances on a compressed timeline. Göran Lehmann, Head of Technical Projects at Crossplan Deutschland, described how regulatory decisions can arrive with little advance warning, requiring fast adoption across the entire portfolio.
Crossplan considered building a consent management solution in-house but ruled it out. Regulations in this space change too frequently, and maintaining an internal solution would place the full legal risk on each individual publisher. Crossplan needed a specialized external partner whose team could help manage regulatory changes, so Crossplan could reduce that risk on the publishers’ behalf.
Why Usercentrics CMP
Multi-domain capability was the requirement that shaped Crossplan’s vendor selection from the start. Crossplan needed a consent management platform that could operate across all audio publishers’ digital properties with a standardized configuration, while remaining customizable to each publisher’s specific needs.
Thomas Kabke-Sommer, Managing Director at Crossplan Deutschland, described the original mandate:
When the contract came up for renewal, Crossplan evaluated competing providers. Lehmann noted that the product’s interface quality and UX confirmed the decision to continue with Usercentrics. Switching providers would have required migrating every CMP configuration across 89 web domains, 68 apps, and six connected TV properties. The quality of the existing setup made that unnecessary.
Implementation
Crossplan has expanded the deployment of Usercentrics CMP steadily over approximately five years, growing from web into app and most recently into consent management on connected TV.
For new audio publishers joining the portfolio, onboarding to Usercentrics CMP is straightforward. Lehmann described the technical setup as fast and uncomplicated: for a recent publisher onboarding, the process came down to simply providing the integration code and going live.
For publishers whose mobile apps use web views, Crossplan deploys the same CMP configuration across both web and app properties, reducing configuration overhead. Lehmann noted that this approach covers most of the app portfolio and gives the team a single point of management for both channels.
Results
Across the portfolio, the overall consent acceptance rate sits at roughly 60 percent. When Crossplan identified that the consent banner was appearing more frequently than necessary on some properties, the team worked with Usercentrics to adjust the display settings. Reducing the banner show rate addressed pop-up fatigue and helped improve acceptance.
The CMP infrastructure has also strengthened publisher confidence. Kabke-Sommer noted that audio publishers gained more control and security over the technologies and processes in use across their websites and apps, helping them increase user trust and strengthen the listener relationship with their audiences.
Crossplan uses the acceptance rate dashboard to monitor consent performance across all 163 consent management configurations, and bulk editing to deploy configuration changes across the portfolio without updating each one individually.
For organizations managing consent across growing, distributed digital portfolios, Crossplan‘s experience illustrates a practical principle: When the consent platform supports multi-domain and multi-device architecture, even a small team can maintain and scale standardized compliance across a large publisher network.
