Summary

Publisher C.H. Beck has been in business for over 250 years and is the largest German language legal publisher. They produce all manner of legal materials, from specialist multi-volume works and professional journals to e-books and apps.

The GDPR is an ever-present consideration for them, and security and transparency around data protection are particularly important. They rely on customer and user data in the ecommerce sector for optimization, making comprehensive consent management tools a necessity.

C.H. Beck started working with Usercentrics in 2020, and expanded the business relationship in 2022. The company wanted a solution they could have confidence in right from the start. At present they run v2 of the Usercentrics Consent Management Platform (CMP) on about 20 websites.

Challenge

C.H. Beck is one of Germany’s oldest publishing firms, run by the sixth generation of the Beck family. It may have roots in the medieval town of Nördlingen, but the company continues to grow and evolve in the digital age. Correspondingly, its data protection needs continue to evolve as well.

They have a robust online platform and have embraced ecommerce, enabling reach beyond DACH. They know that online privacy compliance is critical for their business, and for building trusted and ongoing relationships with their client base.

The company’s expertise and focus is publishing. So they wanted a consent management solution that was fast and easy to implement and that didn’t need a lot of highly technical resources for implementation or over time.

Goals

Easy implementation and comprehensive functionality

Get the CMP implemented as quickly and easily as possible. Ensure the CMP enables full customization and detection of all services in use on websites and apps.

Flexible and user-friendly configuration

Ensure the team — technical or not — can implement and customize the CMP, as well as enable ongoing privacy compliance as regulations and digital technologies evolve, saving the company time and resources.

Strong support

Solid and ongoing collaboration, with guaranteed high availability and responsiveness, and solutions that solve customer issues quickly.

Peace of mind with regulatory compliance

Meet GDPR and any other international regulatory requirements for consent and data security, reducing legal risk and ensuring the company provides great user experience while getting the data they need.

Making It Work Together

Onboarding was extremely fast because, on the one hand, the documentation of the solution is very good, and on the other hand, our implementation partner TIE Kinetix already had experience with Usercentrics.
Franz Keim, C.H. Beck’s Team Lead Online Marketing

Franz Keim, C.H. Beck’s Team Lead Online Marketing (eCommerce), talked to us about the company’s goals, implementing Usercentrics’ CMP and the key benefits they’ve seen.

Well supported

Onboarding was extremely fast because, on the one hand, the documentation of the solution is very good, and on the other hand, our implementation partner TIE Kinetix already had experience with Usercentrics.

Performance and optimization

Above all, the introduction of v2 once again brought a significant boost in terms of performance. We were able to observe this very well as part of a project to optimize loading times, so the switch to Usercentrics v2 was one of the central points in this project.

Save time and work

In addition to the user-centric UI, the service database with all conceivable services is certainly one of the most outstanding features for us, as it really saves us a whole lot of work.

Protecting the business

It is particularly important to us that we are secure and transparent when it comes to data protection, especially as we rely heavily on user and customer data in the ecommerce sector to optimize our offering.
