In today’s digital world, page speed is no longer a luxury — it’s a non-negotiable. Google’s Core Web Vitals directly impact your search rankings, while users demand lightning-fast experiences that drive engagement and conversions. That’s why we’ve invested in a performance upgrade for our latest script version, known as the V3 script tag.
Our latest 2025 performance analysis provides compelling evidence: updating your script tag to V3 outperforms V2 across every performance metric, from load speed to total blocking time.
Let’s dive into the data and why this upgrade matters for your business.
Achieve better page performance with the Usercentrics CMP V3 script tag
Switching from the Usercentrics CMP V2 script tag to V3 is more than just a version update. It’s a leap forward in speed, responsiveness, and efficiency. We ran performance tests across 12 different scenarios and evaluated outcomes based on Google’s Core Web Vitals — the gold standard in page performance metrics. The results? While V2 sets a strong foundation, V3 consistently achieves even stronger performance results, often by a significant margin.
Here’s how:
- Performance score (an overall indicator of page performance) reached 100, the highest score,in multiple V3 scenarios
- The performance score for the Desktop CMP for desktop users with TCF framework on V3 showed a 22% improvement compared to V2 (from 76 to 98, see graph below)
- The performance score for the CMP for mobile users with TCF framework on V3 improved by 9% to reach the highest score of 100 (see the graph below)
- Even in complex implementations, V3 of the script tag delivered Core Web Vitals scores in the 90s and above — a clear signal of optimization at every level.
By comparison, V2 of the script tag scored the two lowest results in the test set. Simply put, Usercentrics CMP with the V3 script tag is built for speed, and the data proves it.
For this report, we considered five total metrics, including the performance score:
- Performance Score – overall snapshot of page performance
- Total Blocking Time (TBT) – time the main thread is blocked due to long tasks
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) – time taken to load the largest visible content
- First Contentful Paint (FCP) – time taken to render the first visible element
- Speed Index – speed of rendering visible content
Strong results across all Core Web Vitals metrics
The Usercentrics CMP with the V3 script tag doesn’t just excel in overall performance score — it also shows consistent gains across other key Core Web Vitals metrics:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
The TCF framework on V2 showed poor performance, with both mobile and desktop LCPs above 3.4 seconds — well beyond the acceptable threshold. In contrast, all other frameworks on the V3 version stayed under 940ms, delivering a noticeably faster experience.
- First Contentful Paint (FCP)
All frameworks and versions — including mobile and desktop — performed well, with FCP results staying under 801ms, safely within the ideal range.
- Speed Index
Once again, the TCF framework on V2 lagged behind, with a Speed Index close to 2.3s, hitting the upper limit (see the graph below). All other versions performed better and stayed within optimal thresholds.
- Total Blocking Time (TBT)
All test scenarios, including sandbox environments, delivered stable and acceptable results.
Why performance matters for consent

The result? Users interact with your consent banners faster, more smoothly, and with fewer barriers — helping you stay compliant and data-driven.
More than just speed: What else the V3 script delivers
Performance is only part of the picture. The V3 script tag delivers enhancements designed to support your privacy strategy and marketing goals:
- Consent history: Respond to access requests in just a few clicks
- Enhanced customizability: Easily align your banners with your brand with upgraded CSS tools

And yes, all your favorite features from V2 — like cross-domain consent sharing and geotargeting — are still here.
