Challenge
Operating in a heavily regulated environment, REMONDIS needs to comply with multiple legal and security frameworks. These requirements span data protection, information security, and emerging national legislation, placing increasing pressure on both their IT and marketing teams.
Key obligations include:
- The Swedish Cybersecurity Act, which came into effect January 15, 2026, and which introduced additional national requirements for digital resilience and security
- GDPR compliance across the company’s digital properties
- ISO 27001 certification, requiring rigorous information security management practices and ongoing controls
Beyond regulatory compliance, the marketing team faced a practical challenge with data usability. As Fred Lafquist, Growth Marketing Specialist at REMONDIS, explained:
“First and foremost there’s a legal aspect, but in terms of your data, you need to know what percentage of your visitors are actually contributing with interaction data.”
Without clear and reliable consent signals, a significant share of visitor data could not be used for analytics or behavioral insights. This reduced visibility into audience engagement and limited the ability to optimize content and digital experiences.
Previous experience with other consent solutions introduced additional friction. Implementation challenges and limited support increased operational risk, particularly during a CMS transition.
When REMONDIS launched a new website on a new CMS, the lack of a reliable consent management platform became an immediate privacy and compliance concern.
Goals
REMONDIS defined a set of clear, measurable objectives when selecting a new consent management platform (CMP).
These objectives directly reflected the challenges the organization faced: operating within a heavily regulated industry, addressing data visibility, navigating implementation complexity, and mitigating risks with their CMS migration.
1) Establish compliant cookie consent across all active domains
To address GDPR obligations and reduce privacy compliance risks during and after its CMS migration, REMONDIS prioritized consistent, compliant cookie consent across all digital properties. The initial rollout covered four domains, with a scalable configuration designed to support future site launches without introducing additional complexity.
2) Increase usable analytics data
Due to unclear consent signals, a significant portion of previously collected visitor data could not be used for analytics. Therefore, improving valid consent rates were a core objective, thus increasing the share of visitors contributing consented interaction data and restoring visibility into audience behavior and content performance.
3) Minimize implementation and maintenance effort
Previous experience with complex consent solutions highlighted the need for a CMP that could be deployed quickly and maintained with minimal overhead. REMONDIS needed a solution that reduced dependency on external developers and provided clear guidance on configuration and ongoing management.
4) Maintain legal confidence across evolving regulations
With multiple frameworks in scope, including the GDPR, ISO 27001 certification requirements, and the Swedish Cybersecurity Act, the selected CMP needed to support ongoing regulatory alignment and business growth. This objective focused on reinforcing legal confidence over time, rather than reacting to individual regulatory changes.
Why REMONDIS Sweden AB chose Usercentrics Cookiebot CMP
The selection of Cookiebot™ was informed by a combination of prior hands-on experience and comparative evaluation.
Lafquist had previously worked with Cookiebot CMP as well as alternative solutions. Based on his experience, he identified clear differences in usability and reliability:
“I’ve found Cookiebot CMP to be the best one — easy to implement, clear reports, and clear insight into what actions, if any, are needed to be taken to be compliant.”
Earlier tools presented challenges, particularly around support and setup:
“Poor support and difficulties in implementing the tool.”
Cookiebot addressed these issues directly, reducing friction during implementation and providing clearer insights into consent outcomes. This supported both privacy compliance objectives and data-driven decision-making.
Implementation
REDMONDIS deployed Cookiebot CMP with minimal effort.
“30 minutes or so — it is a very easy process with high-quality support documentation.”
Implementation details included:
- Time to first live consent banner: approximately 30 minutes
- Number of active domains: four domains at launch, with additional domains planned
- Primary customization: consent banner design aligned with REMONDISbranding
The company’s initial deployment required no advanced technical configuration and was completed without support escalation.
Results
Following implementation, REMONDIS recorded measurable consent-related improvements:
Consent acceptance
- Acceptance rate increased from 72% to 77% over the course of 2025.
Data quality
- A higher proportion of visitors now contribute usable analytics data.
- Acceptance reporting enables comparison of consent behavior across domains.
Internal alignment
- Legal stakeholders value the structured support for regulatory compliance.
- Marketing teams use acceptance insights to adapt content strategies.
“The most noticeable is that over the course of 2025 we increased from an acceptance rate of 72% to 77%, which in turn gives us higher-quality data to act on in terms of analytics and behaviour. Legal likes it as it helps us be compliant with legislation.”
The increase in acceptance rates also directly improved the reliability of behavioral analytics, supporting more informed decision-making.
