Frequently asked questions
What is a consent management platform (CMP)?
Consent management platform (CMP) is a software tool that helps website owners and app developers manage user consent for data collection and processing activities. It enables compliance with data privacy regulations like the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California’s Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). A CMP enables users to provide or decline informed consent, or customize their data use preferences for cookies, tracking technologies, and data sharing practices.
Why do I need a CMP on my website?
You need a consent management platform (CMP) on your website to comply with privacy regulations like the GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, POPIA, etc., and with requirements from large digital platforms like Google and its services. A CMP helps you obtain, manage, and signal user consent for data collection and processing activities, thereby enhancing transparency and trust with your users while mitigating the risk of legal penalties for noncompliance.
How can I implement the Usercentrics CMP on my website?
There are several easy implementation methods for the Usercentrics CMP into your website, including via a Google Tag Manager template. Read our implementation guides here
Is Usercentrics part of the Google CMP Partner Program?
Yes, the Usercentrics CMP is Google-certified. You need a CMP to set up Consent Mode v2, use of which is a Google requirement in the EU to maintain your advertising practices. Besides supporting Consent Mode, Usercentrics CMP also integrates with the TCF 2.2, enabling usage of a TCF 2.2 banner. This enables publishers to fulfill additional Google requirements for the continuation of serving ads with Google AdSense, Ad Manager, AdMob, and platforms supporting Google bidding for EEA/UK users. What is Google Consent Mode?
Google Consent Mode is a tool that was launched in 2020, and initially one of its biggest benefits was enabling some data tracking and more insights, even if users did not provide consent. Consent Mode and its value have since evolved, and today it functions as a signaling tool that enables control of other tools and services via tags, e.g. for advertising or analytics, based on consent information obtained.
Google Consent Mode v2 was released in November 2023 and is supported by the Usercentrics CMPs. Learn more.
