metacrew group GmbH is a leading direct to consumer (D2C) player in the German market. With around 250 employees in locations in Osnabrück, Berlin and Hamburg, they’ve grown substantially since the company’s founding in 2015. Their tech expertise is at the core of their business, particularly in data analytics, AI, and marketing services.

They use unique platforms, like Foodist or BeautyLove, to especially bring food and beauty lovers together with manufacturers and startups in both digital and physical spaces. Their ideas drive innovation and ensure the companies they work with are set up for success.

Whether organizations are getting started in ecommerce or launching or repositioning a product, metacrew helps them do it right. Their passion is to truly know the customer and to get necessary data with transparency and consent. This enables them to craft the right channels and messaging to reach audiences, analyze their behaviors, and deliver great customer experiences.

Challenge

metacrew group started working with Usercentrics in 2020. They needed an Enterprise solution as they run dozens of ecommerce platforms and webshops. They currently use the Usercentrics CMP on over 20 domains.

metacrew group needed a consent management solution that was flexible enough for all current and future branding and messaging needs, while enabling them to achieve and maintain compliance with the evolving GDPR and future regulations. Transparency with customers is very important to them. But they also know that a CMP can’t get in users’ way.

Frederic Engel, metacrew group’s Senior Marketing Consultant, summed up the company’s approach to privacy and data protection: “We believe that the customer has the right to control their data and what we do with it.

Goals

1) Easy implementation

Get the CMP installed and up and running as quickly and easily as possible to enable optimization. Engel said, “The onboarding was very fast and smooth. We got a customized solution for our needs, including fair pricing.

2) User-friendly configuration

Ensure that even non-technical staff can implement and customize the CMP and optimize using the analytics. Engel commented, “We keep it quick and simple. The setup is mainly to add individual logos and some CSS changes to have each shop’s CI appearance. For our purposes Usercentrics’ CMP is absolutely satisfying and fits our needs.

3) Strong support

Solid collaboration between the metacrew group’s team and Customer Success, high responsiveness and solutions that solve customer issues quickly. Engel noted that working with Usercentrics is “a pleasure because our personal account manager is always available for our needs and questions”.

4) Transparent and secure

Ensure clear and user-friendly consent communication with users and secure management of their data. Regarding the metacrew group’s goals working with Usercentrics, Engel said, ”First we achieved GDPR compliance. Secondly, we give transparency to our customers so they know what we want to track, and they can decide what kind of data we are permitted to track. It’s a matter of transparency and commitment for both sides.

Making It Work Together

Frederic Engel talked to us further about the company’s goals, implementing Usercentrics’ CMP, which he called “the most valuable solution on the market”, and the key benefits they’ve seen.

Performance and optimization

It fits perfectly for our compliance and the legal requirements of the GDPR. We are very satisfied because we have a very stable solution. For sure the automated scan for running tracking services is very helpful to ensure a validated setup. The implementation via the Google Tag Manager is very handy. The Analytics module is also very helpful to optimize the opt-in rate.

When we asked about future expectations for Usercentrics’ product direction, Engel commented, “Straight monitoring on coming changes and new requirements based on the GDPR. In the last two years of using this CMP, Usercentrics surprised us in nearly every update with new features and better workflows to make it easier and comfortable to respect the wishes of our customer and legislator.

Customer-centricity

It is very clear in talking to the metacrew group’s team that customers and their experiences are of utmost importance to them. When we asked about Usercentrics’ business value to them, Frederic Engel noted, “To be compliant with the GDPR and offer a user-friendly solution to our customers. We believe that it’s important to raise brand trust and reputation.

On the importance of the clean user interface and seamless user experience, he noted that “users don’t love clicking a lot of buttons before getting into the shop.
